Here is a before and after photo of Mattie done in the studio. On the after photo, I added edges and then put texture over that as it still didn't look like anything other than ordinary. I like the after look best.

The second image is my favorite too --- cute pose that tells us something about Mattie. I like the edge, yes, but not the texture in the center! For me, it just doesn't go with the subject. I know, I just can't get with the times!
How about a version where you go much lighter in the background, almost high key?
I just clicked to look at it larger --- The Secret Garden! What a great book, one of my favorites as a child too!
