Mattie II

I cannot decide which pose I like better. Closer is always better for me, but in this case, I like the effect of the trees surrounding her. What do you think?

Nice shot Shirley!

The lighting and composition are well done and your model is beautiful!

As far as which shot is better, well you already answered your own question: "Closer is better!".

Cheers!

Art is so subjective! I like the wide angle view a lot, I like seeing the environment more in this image, but really both are wonderful. I do wish the tree trunk shadow was not across her torso, though. I think I would have tried lighting her more from camera right, very near the photographer, but that is easy to say after the fact! Maybe you can try dodging it or selecting and doing a levels adjustment to lighten it as much as possible. Still, cute girl, cute pose and interesting environment.

It all depends on what I want the photo to say as to which one I would choose. If I wanted to be all about Mattie, I would choose the close-up (in fact, I would make it a little more of a close-up by changing to a 11x14 format rather than a 2x3 format--not sure which end I would crop). If I wanted the photo to show that she is a "Tom-Boy", I would go with the wider shot. Personally, I too often forget to address the most basic question: what do I want this photo to be?

The lighting, expression and pose are all very good. Really nice job.
