Lindsey & Michelle

Done in my studio with ambient backlighting and two speedlites at 45 degree angles on 1/2 setting. Brightened to bring out high contrast look after converting from color to black and white. High contrast is gaining in my favor for portraits. Second portrait has texture added. Only brushed texture away from the face

I prefer the photo without texture. The texture mainly distracts me where it goes across their arms but, I just don't care for it here.

I am not a portrait photographer, so take this with a grain of salt. The shadow from the flowers on the lady to the right bothers me, as does the shadow in her cleavage. Alright, you can just stop laughing now; it (the shadow) distracted me. That's not where my eye went first but, it got around to the shadows and that's where it was.

It seems that the light was not the correct balance to get rid of the shadows. What do I know, I shoot wildlife.

What shadows Doug??? Seriously I do not notice any at all since I look at their faces and to me that makes the image a little flat (no pun intended). Maybe it is the black and white treatment because I really liked the color version of Lindsey from yesterday (minus the shadows). I think maybe you should try some different versions of black and white, more contrasty ones. I do like the texture BEHIND the girls but agree with D. about it over their bodies.

Due to Shirley's comment about the lighting setup I was looking for balance across the whole photo. The lighting looked pretty much the same across the front (kind of flat) other than the shadows I noticed.

That shadow in her cleavage is from her right breast as the speedlite is at a 45 angle on her right. Not much I could do there unless I also shot straight on. Any suggestions about that?
